Subaru introduced the Impreza in the 1993 model year offering this vehicle in four door and five door sedans and a five door station wagon. The name is derived from the Italian word for 'impressive party' or 'outstanding event.' The Impreza was positioned as a sporty driving, utilitarian compact car available with a boxer engine and all-wheel-drive.
Subaru engineers widened the WRX's front and rear tracks by 1.5-inches while the car also gets firmer rear subframe bushings and wider 17-inch wheels and tires (235/45R17 vs. 225/45R17).
